From fun to fashionable, paleo period to midcentury modern, event themes are all the rage this season. Check out some of the best here and get inspired for your next event:
Jurassic World
Imagine entering a world of lush ferns and foliage, with giant dragonflies overhead and the far-away sound a of pterodactyl’s call. This is Jurassic World. The ultimate location for this event would be a museum, (for example, the newly renovated Bell Museum in St. Paul, MN) where up lighting a dinosaur skeleton or pin-spotting a giant fossil would bring the treasures directly into your event. Bamboo chairs, leafy green centerpieces of ferns and tropical plants, and reptile -print linens perfectly enhance this theme. And don’t forget the T-Rex greeter!
Super Hero
This theme feeds the insatiable thirst the public has for Super Heroes of any kind. For an adult Super Hero event, the scale needs to be BIG, and include props, games, photo ops, and the step-and-repeat. Imagine giant banners shouting “POW!” and “BAM!” alongside blown-up movie posters from current superhero films. Utilize the primary colors of red, blue, yellow, and of course, the iconic Comic Book font.
Glamping
Glamour Camping (glamping) works as a casual meeting theme. This event can take place either in the great outdoors or in a ballroom. Think of an Airstream trailer lounge or a teepee relaxation area with native rugs and seating poufs, faux lawn grass and potted evergreens. The menu might include iconic camping food such as an upscale trail mix, a ‘smores station, and skillet fare. Unconventional seating options include pillows, pods, or tree stumps. Activities may include a GPS or old-school compass scavenger hunt. Hang lanterns or café lights and drape with mosquito netting. Keep the music in a folksy-guitar vein.
Mid-Century Modern
This is a different take on the dated Mad-Men theme. Instead, it concentrates on the furnishings and art of the Mid-Century period. The right type of lounge furniture is extremely important, but don’t overlook the details such as kidney-shaped coffee tables and the quirky fabric prints of the era. Hanging decor re-imagines art pieces of the era—a Kalder-esque mobile, for example. Palm Springs is the epi-center of this retro-movement. Utilize large potted palms and other tropical to bring the desert into your event. Menu items give a nod to the kitschy food groupings of the 50’s, including Jell-O, deviled eggs, and TV dinners. Entertainment should be provided by a swinging lounge trio, of course.
