Exotic foods encompass a wide range of cuisines from around the world. At D’Amico Catering, we’ve created menus and recipes that trace their origins to Ireland, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Canada, Mexico, Turkey and more. One of the most exotic dishes we served recently was something called “Poutine,” which is a Canadian dish that originated in Quebec and consists of French fries topped with cheese curds and covered in brown gravy.
When customers approach us asking for more exotic menu items, the first thing we do is make certain we can deliver it at the highest level of quality, meaning the freshest and most authentic ingredients possible.
Trending exotic flavors/cuisines
Now more than ever, we’re getting requests for foods from around the world that feature dishes made from game meats - bison, venison and even boar.
There’s also a big push for food trucks to offer more exotic foods. For example, AZ Canteen features some exciting items like Crispy Pork Belly with Green Papaya Salad, Chiles, Lime and a Fried Egg; Griddled Veal Tongue on Toasted Bun with Lemon, Capers, Arugula and Tonnato Sauce; and Nicaraguan Dulce de Leche Shaved Ice with Pound Cake.
At D’Amico, we’ve catered many events that have featured exotic foods for the Minnesota International Center. The most recent was a Canadian menu which consisted of Chilled English Pea and Mint Soup; Poutine; Roasted Portobello Mushrooms with Chickpea Fritters and Cucumber Yogurt; Flash-Grilled Spot Prawns with Sweet Garlic Crisps and Roasted Hazelnut Vinaigrette; and for dessert, Mini Ultimate Maple Syrup Tartlets and Mini Saskatoon Berry and Rhubarb Tartlets.
Beverages are also trending away from the ordinary. Some popular cocktails now include signature drinks made with infused vodkas. Other delicious concoctions to try include a Kumquat Ginger Spritzer, Jalapeno Mojito and Mandarin Mango Martini.

Every planner knows that successful events are all about the details. Of course, the venue is crucial. But if you host your gala in Buckingham Palace and the food is bad, what are your guest going to remember? (Okay, maybe they’d remember the queen, but that bad corn would stick in their minds long after it got stuck in their teeth.) Whether it’s your lunch or your linens, the tent or the torts, the blooms or the booze, when you get the details right, everything comes together flawlessly. Read more...
