New Offerings Announced at ASAE Annual Meeting in Toronto

The American Society of Association Executives has welcomed more than 4,500 people to its annual meeting, being held this week at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Canada.

In his opening remarks at Sunday's opening general session, John H. Graham IV, FASAE, CAE, president and CEO of the organization, continued speaking out against travel bans and discriminatory laws: "As an industry, we stand for a welcoming and inclusive environment for all," he declared.

ASAE introduced a hybrid membership model in February 2016, allowing organizations to enroll their staffs as a whole to save on membership fees. Through this program, ASAE has grown from about 21,000 members to about 39,000 in 18 months, many of whom are Millennials. "Historically, our members have been more senior-associate staff," Graham noted. "We still want to address that group - however, we also feel there is now an opportunity to engage a broader younger demographic."

During the event, ASAE launched the ASAE Insurance Source, a platform designed to help associations effectively manage their operational and governance risks. The platform aims to provide competitively priced products that serve associations' property, casualty-insurance and risk-management needs.

"We can't promise a hazard-free operating environment, but we can help associations tap into the tools, insights and supports they need to successfully manage the risks they face, and the ASAE Insurance Source represents a new approach," said Graham. "ASAE, through ABSI, has been engaged in this important work for many years. With this new platform, we will be able to sharpen our focus on associations' evolving risk needs and continue to add resources in the future."

Among the products are the newly enhanced ASAE-Endorsed Nonprofit Directors' and Officers' (D&O) Insurance program, the ASAE-Endorsed Association Office Package Insurance program and the ASAE-Endorsed Event Cancellation Insurance program.

ASAE also has developed updated and new organizational assessments under its AssociaMetrics umbrella. The updated Association Inclusion Index allows organizations to assess their cultural competency and benchmark their diversity and inclusion progress. The new Global Maturity Assessment helps them determine their readiness to take their associations to a global market. The last, the Technology Readiness Assessment, helps organizations determine how savvy they are around technology and how ready they are to make changes to their technology strategies.

Next year's annual meeting will take place at Chicago's McCormick Place, Aug. 18-21.
