If the Roseville Visitors Association has its way, the grounds of the John Rose OVAL will be all aglow during next fall's holiday season.
Leaders of the hospitality trade group told the Roseville City Council Monday night that their organization is working on a special "OVAL Illumination" festival for next holiday season.
The vision is to have a free public lighting display that makes use of the more than 285 trees on the grounds of the outdoor skating facility, said Julie Wearn, CEO of the Visitors Association.
"We have arborvitae – which are 12 feet tall and evergreens ranging from 20 to 30 to 50 feet," she said.
Wearn said the special holiday lighting display would celebrate the 20th anniversary of the OVAL and could become an annual tradition. Association leaders said their conceptual plan is to take the holiday lighting to new heights, building and expanding on their organization's efforts of the past several years.
"We think it’s (OVAL illumination) a great, high visibility, low cost way for local businesses and non-profits to help beautify the OVAL for a free public light display and to promote their brand and image!," Wearn said. "On a daily basis, over 25,000 vehicles travel on County Rd C – so physically it's great exposure at a cost of less than a $9 a day for a fully decorated 30 foot spruce.
We have complete lighting package pricing starts at $83."
Wearn said the Skating Center and OVAL annually draws 371,000 Visitors. "The bulk of them come during their prime season running from October through early March.
