On Monday, March 31st at 7:00 pm, for one night only, Ten Chimneys Foundation presents the landmark comedy “The Guardsman.”
Ten Chimneys Foundation is proud to continue its highly-acclaimed collaboration with Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Artistic Internship Program. In the tradition of the bygone “golden age of radio,” PLAY READINGS AT TEN CHIMNEYS allow audiences to experience the best of the plays related to Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, the “golden couple of Broadway.” In addition to delighting audiences, The Rep’s talented young actors from around the country are inspired by the opportunity to rehearse and perform these plays at Ten Chimneys.
“The Guardsman,” first produced on Broadway in 1924, marked the Lunts’ first starring vehicle together. After opening night, legendary critic and curmudgeon, Alexander Woollcott, wrote, “They have youth and great gifts and the unmistakable attitude of ascent, and those who saw them last night bowing hand in hand for the first time, may well have been witnessing a moment in theatrical history.” How right he was.
Milwaukee-area audiences have a chance to witness the next generation of professional actors recreate the play that started it all for the fabulous Lunts.
PLAY READINGS AT TEN CHIMNEYS are presented at Ten Chimneys’ Lunt-Fontanne Program Center in Genesee Depot, WI. Admission is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Reservations can be made by calling (262) 968-4110.
