In the heart of a valley once known for industry and the stench of livestock is a clean, green oasis. The Potawatomi Hotel & Casino has been given LEED Gold certification, the second highest designation for sustainable building practices from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The 381-room hotel and development was designed by Cuningham Group Architecture, Inc. The hotel opened last summer.
Some of the sustainable strategies include LED lighting; sensors that gauge how much heat and cooling is needed based on activity and available light; native plantings in the grounds; low-flow water fixtures; storm water management systems and locally sourced building materials, among other things.
