For 123 years, The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa has been the Denver address of visiting presidents, royalty and rock stars, and now the iconic hotel has completed a $10.5 million renovation that is bringing additional state-of-the-art meeting space, unprecedented guest room luxury and innovative technology to the Forbes Travel Guide Four Star and AAA Four Diamond legend.
The historic property made room for an additional 3,500 square feet of new space by relocating the hotel’s sales and management offices. The entire second floor now houses a meeting and conference center on all three sides of the atrium lobby. In total, The Brown Palace offers 23,253 square feet of meeting and event space and can accommodate up to 800 guests.
200 of the hotel’s rooms have also been renovated with a contemporary look that mingles with the hotel’s classic Victorian charm. The new rooms feature personal reading lights, flat-screen HDTVs, iPod docking stations and personal device charging stations.
“The Mile High City has never been more popular and no hotel is more iconic to Denver than The Brown Palace,” said Mark Shine, The Brown Palace’s sales and marketing director. “Meeting planners can trust their clients will be taken care of in the traditional and luxurious Brown Palace fashion but with new modern amenities and sophisticated meeting space to meet all their needs.”
A covered walkway with views of downtown leads from the second floor meeting level across Tremont Street to a 5,800 square foot ballroom and 16 meeting rooms offering an additional 19,453 square feet of space. The hotel is attached by the same covered walkway to a sister property, the Holiday Inn Express, which provides an additional 231 rooms.
The Holiday Inn Express has also just completed a “top to bottom” $11 million renovation that included all new rooms. Built in 1959, the art deco inspired hotel opened as The Brown Palace West and is connected to The Brown by a covered bridge. The renovation included a complete makeover in every guest room with new wall coverings, new carpets, new bedding, new TVs, and new doors.
All corridors and hallways were redone with new wall coverings and carpet, as were all meeting spaces. The fitness club, which is shared with The Brown Palace, was also completely refurbished.
“We have a unique ability in Denver to offer a group 25,000 square feet of meeting rooms, and two very distinctive price points at The Brown or at the Holiday Inn Express,” Shine said.
Over the years, The Brown Palace has hosted many important gatherings. When then-president Clinton selected Denver for the Summit of the Eight, he also chose the Brown Palace as his hotel. The Onyx Room served as the Oval Office during the Summit, while the Brown Palace Club (now a meeting room) was once campaign headquarters for Dwight D. Eisenhower.
