Minnesota to announce bid for Super Bowl on Monday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Gov. Mark Dayton and a coalition of Minnesota business and community leaders will announce the state's bid to bring the Super Bowl to Minnesota.

A news conference will be held at the Minnesota State Capitol on Monday at 11 a.m.

New Orleans, Indianapolis and Minneapolis are the three finalists to host the NFL championship game in 2018. Those three cities were selected from a pool of six at the owners' meetings last year.

Meet Minneapolis is the group that partnered with the Minneapolis Sports Facilities Authority to submit the initial application to host the Super Bowl.

The NFL will make its announcement in May 2014.

The last and only other time a Super Bowl came to Minnesota was in 1992 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Officials have said that a Super Bowl can bring to a city anywhere from $250 to $350 million.
