The Minneapolis Marriott City Center is preparing for the 2008 Republican National Convention with hometown favorites given a political flair from the George Bush Texas Tea, McCain Perfect Manhattan and Chocolate Berry Huckabee Martini to the Minnesota Ginger Gold Apple with caramel sauce -- and all of this creativity will be conducted in a model eco-friendly environment of recycling, linen and towel re-use, and energy saving lighting.
"I know all eyes are on Denver right now, but we're excited and we're getting ready to host the 2008 Republican National Convention here in Minneapolis/St. Paul," said Tom Chase, General Manager. "We've created a fun-filled menu that blends political savvy with Minnesota favorites like apples and cheddar cheese, and a tremendous 'green' environment hotel-wide. We'll have the New York and Wisconsin delegations with us -- and while their Republican solidarity is a given, they may 'scrimmage' a bit over who owns football rights to Brett Favre. We're looking at a special area of our lobby or bar to accommodate that contest."
The hotel, which was recently awarded the Xcel Hotel Energy Conservation Award, is among the first of Marriott's 3,000 hotels worldwide to implement an expanded program of total commitment to a greener environment with both guest room and public space recycling, linen and towel reuse programs, and energy-efficient lighting and systems. The hotel recycles 200 lbs of paper and donates 350 lbs of soap, shampoo and conditioner each week and 80% of all its cleaning products are environmentally friendly and safe.
"We've got our special brand of service and our entire team of people here at the hotel ready to impress and deliver on every need and desire. The hotel has to be perfect so that nothing stands in the way of the politics at hand," Chase added. "And of course, we plan a few surprises that will delight the delegates."
The Minneapolis Marriott City Center is located at 30 S 7th St., Minneapolis, MN 55402.
