Interlachen Country Club General Manager George Carroll is among seven people selected for induction into the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame this year, the Minnesota Golf Association announced Tuesday.
Carroll, who has been a general manager for 35 years, became the general manager of Interlachen Country Club in January 1999. He has also been general manager of Southview Country Club and Town & Country Club of Saint Paul.
Carroll was president of the Upper Midwest Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) in 1984 and 2007 and was on the association’s national board for 10 years, serving as national president in 1996.
He also:
•Served on the executive committee of the 2002 Solheim Cup and 2008 United States Golf Association Women’s Open and the Board of Governors of the Club Foundation.
•Worked with the Minnesota Golf Association and Minnesota Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America to host Championships at his facilities.
•Was a featured speaker at CMAA national conferences and Golf Course Superintendents national conferences on several occasions.
The Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame, established in 1987, is located at the Bunker Hills Golf Course clubhouse in Coon Rapids. It’s operated by the Minnesota Golf Association and the Minnesota Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.
The other 2012 inductees are:
•Jon Chaffee, a professional golfer who competed on the PGA Tour,
•Nancy Foss Harris, a long-time amateur from the Minneapolis Golf Club,
•Jo-Ann Lindsay, a two-time MGA Senior Women Player of the Year,
•Garold Murphy, a leader in the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association,
•Tom Vardon, a golf pro who also competed in British Open and USGA Open championships and
•Michael Zinni, a professional golfer and active PGA member.
The honorees’ induction into the Golf Hall of Fame will take place at various PGA, MGA and allied golf association events throughout the year, according to the MGA.
