The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee will renovate the Polaris room, the circular restaurant space that revolved atop the downtown hotel for decades, before closing to the public in 2009, according to information shared by the hotel.
The renovation work is expected to be completed and a brand new Polaris will open in 2016, according to tentative plans. The details on the renovation and whether it will once again turn a circle every 70 minutes will be disclosed on July 1, a Hyatt Regency spokeswoman said.
Providing spectacular 360-degree views of the city, the Polaris room became a popular dining and tourist attraction when the Hyatt on West Kilbourn Avenue opened in 1980. Polaris was closed as part of a $19 million hotel renovation in 2009, but has been open for special events and banquets. It has the capacity to hold 200 people, according to hotel information.
The 481-room Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave., is owned by Noble Investment Group of Atlanta.
