DMAI to Change Name to Destinations International

Destination Marketing Association International will officially switch its name to Destinations International during the organization's annual meeting, which will take place July 11-14 in Montreal, a spokesperson for the organization confirmed to M&C. At the same time, the DMAI Foundation's name will change to Destinations International Foundation. DMAI will reveal more details later today in a statement; stay tuned for details.

The measure marks the fourth name change for the 103-year-old association. The organization was launched in 1914 as the International Association of Convention Bureaus. The name was then modified to the International Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus in the mid-1970s and then in 2005 was rebranded as Destination Marketing Association International.

Almost 600 destination marketing organizations are members of DMAI, representing more than 4,400 staff members in 12 countries. Members DMOs must be recognized by their respective governments and include convention and visitor bureaus, regional tourism boards, state tourism offices, provincial tourism offices and national tourism boards.
