The new owners of the 564-room Bloomington Sheraton hotel expect their capital improvements to help boost average room occupancies from about 60 percent to 75 or 80 percent, according to a report by Hotel Interactive, a hotel industry trade publication.
You may recall that in January, the Business Journal reported that Platinum Equity bought the Sheraton for $20 million and that it planned to spend $12.5 million on upgrades and a change in the flag to a DoubleTree Hotel.
Platinum's details of the massive makeover project include renovating all but 150 of the rooms, updating common areas, and possibly launching new food and beverage outlets. The outside of the iconic 494-strip hotel will also be power-washed. The front desk may also be relocated, according to the story.
An official at Denver-based Richfield Hospitality, which is overseeing the redevelopment, described the property as “a nice monster hotel,” and said the overhaul will take 18 to 24 months to complete.
