James J. Hill Center — Saint Paul, Minnesota

The James J. Hill Center has awed and inspired visitors with its historical intrigue and stunning architecture since it opened to the public in 1921. Constructed of Tennessee marble and Minnesota sandstone, it is both a living monument to the Empire Builder, James J. Hill, and a Saint Paul landmark, situated on picturesque Rice Park in the heart of downtown. Meetings and events held at the James J. Hill Center get an extra touch of class thanks to our beautiful building. Our conference rooms are perfect for entrepreneurs and organizations needing an impressive space to meet with clients and colleagues. Classically furnished yet modern in function, these conference rooms are designed for intimate events such as team meetings and small seminars. The Reading Room, our stunning book-lined atrium, hosts concerts, keynote speakers, weddings, and corporate events in an unforgettable space.

Depending on the space you rent at the James J. Hill Center, your rental fee could include tables, chairs, WiFi, easels, event manager, building services and security staff, a 8’x7’ screen and projector or 55” Smart TV and an open catering policy. We also have furniture and up lights available for rental – and any additional AV needs are provided by AVEX.

Boasting several distinctive settings that can accommodate one to 350 people, the James J. Hill Center provides the perfect venue for events such as retreats, educational seminars, conferences, art shows, book signings, fundraisers, receptions and more.  It’s an incomparably grand space that elevates your meeting or event to a whole new level. We currently have four conference rooms between 324 sq. ft and 437 sq. ft. and it includes WiFi, a 8’x7’ screen and projector or 55” Smart TV, and an open catering policy. Our august Reading Room is 6500 sq. ft. and includes tables, chairs, WiFi, easels, event manager, and an open catering policy. Nonprofits and government organizations can contact the event team for a discounted rate.

We offer a list of trusted, preferred caterers; however, we have open catering policy to any licensed and insured cater.  Beverage service is provided by Green Mill Catering or Mintáhoe Catering and Events.
