Minnesota Vikings Are Hosting Last Training Camp In Mankato This Year

Yep, we managed to do multiple posts on the same story, but it’s pretty important, so that’s okay. I’ve managed to Voltron a couple of them together for your reading pleasure.

After 52 years the Minnesota Vikings are ending their run at Minnesota State University. Starting next year, they will be in their new home in Eagan when their new training facility and 6,500 seat stadium will open.

ESPN’s Ben Goessling has reported that the Vikings have been training in Mankato since 1966. Which ties them with the Pittsburgh Steelers for NFL’s record for second longest training camp in one place.

“Over the past 52 years we have formed incredible relationships with Minnesota State University, Mankato, the City of Mankato, and the entire community, and those partnerships made this decision difficult,” said Vikings Chief Operating Officer Kevin Warren. “With our increased space and amenities, the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center will give our players, coaches and staff the best opportunity to succeed, and we feel hosting training camp at our new home is the proper move for the organization and Vikings fans. We strongly believe it is important to make this announcement now so we can truly celebrate 52 years with our Mankato partners this summer.”

The Vikings will be putting on special events during this year’s camp to highlight the relationship the team has had with the city every late-summer.
