Society of Government Meeting Professionals Announces Plans for National Education Conference
Bloomington, MN (July 7, 2022) – The Bloomington, Minnesota Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) have announced plans to host next year’s National Education Conference (NEC) in Bloomington from June 2-8, 2023. 350-400 government meeting planners will attend the conference, which will take place at Radisson Blu Mall of America. The news was announced during the 2022 conference in Pittsburgh, PA.

SGMP’s membership consists of nearly 2,000 government planners and suppliers and is divided up into 19 chapters across the country, including Minnesota’s Northern Lights chapter. The organization provides training, development, and networking opportunities to members throughout the year, especially at the signature NEC event. Plans for NEC include the Certification of Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) course and exam, annual Sam Gilmer Awards Dinner, and educational sessions for government meeting professionals.

NEC attendees will stay at Radisson Blu Mall of America, connected to Mall of America by skyway. Mall of America’s 520+ stores, 50+ restaurants, and over a dozen attractions are big draws for visitors to Bloomington, along with the destination’s light rail connection to downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul, central location, and 40+ hotels. Bloomington’s many parks and nature areas are especially popular during the warm summer months, with activities including hiking, biking, fishing, water sports, and more.

Radisson Blu Mall of America and Bloomington’s other hotel properties cater to the government meetings market with a per diem rate of $148. Government meetings are essential for connecting public sector professionals, making their organizations more effective in partnering with the private sector, and increasing governmental efficiency.
