Accor Launches Tribe, a New Lifestyle Brand

Paris-based Accor is adding a new lifestyle brand to its midscale portfolio. The new Tribe is actually part of Mantra Hotels, a company with nearly 140 properties in Australia, New Zealand, Bali and Hawaii that Accor acquired in May 2018. The first of the new brand, the 126-room Tribe Perth, is already open in that Western Australia city. Ten more Tribe properties will open by 2022 in Europe and the Asia Pacific, accounting for more than 1,700 rooms in total. The 290-room Tribe Glasgow is expected to debut in mid-2019.
Tribe will boost Accor's footprint in the lifestyle-hotel sector, and aims to provide a sleekly designed, tech-savvy hotel experience at an affordable price. Guest rooms promise a style-conscious but minimalist sensibility, with attention paid to the efficient use of space. The typical Tribe property will have several "creative areas" as opposed to formal meeting space, suitable for co-working or small meetings.

The brand will have free, unlimited WiFi throughout, as well as guest-room amenties like smart TVs and complementary Nespresso capsules and T2 tea. An on-site café will provide meal options throughout the day, become a bar at night, and offer grab-and-go shopping convenience around the clock.

Among other amenities will bicycle-rental services and a fitness center.

Tribe now has 50 properties in the pipeline, including those currently being negotiated, and is targeting international gateway locations such as Paris, London, Singapore, Dubai and Bangkok. Accor chief development officier Gaurav Bhushan expects the brand to be in 150 destinations around the world by 2030.
