When the Grand Falls Casino and Resort decided to add a golf course. It wanted to make something that will set it apart. And that's exactly what they got from designer Rees Jones.
Jones has designed and redesigned prestigious treks like Congressional, the Atlanta Athletic Club and Torrey Pines, the site of Tiger Woods last major championship victory.
"Basically we are designing it for the general public and people from the Midwest and I think people are going to come from far away to play this golf course. The word is going to get out about how much fun there is yet how much challenge there is."
But you don't need to be Tiger Woods to play this new course.
"I think the average golfer is going to enjoy this course as much as anybody."
The course is slated to be played much like the links style you would see overseas, with golfers being able to bounce and run balls onto forgiving greens. And while the design is all but complete, Jones continues to make tweaks. In his most recent visit he changed the finishing hole from a par 5 to a par 3.
"We found that if we 18 a par 3 we could make one of the best par 3's in the country."
The hope is for the course to be completed in the fall and open for play next year.
