OWATONNA — The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism announced the hiring of Katie Godfrey as director of conventions and tourism.
Godfrey begins her employment with OACCT on Nov. 3.
Godfrey attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, where she graduated with honors. She has worked with several community-based organizations including Saint Paul Park and Recreation and Agilis Company, where she worked with donor programs.
Godfrey is also a published author; her children’s book “Sweety Finds Her Family” won the 2014 Silver Moonbeam Award.
The addition of conventions to the title is intended to clearly communicate the chamber's continued focus on bringing in meetings to local venues and lodgings, chamber President/CEO Jennifer Libby.
Godfrey comes to the position at a good time. According to information gathered from the majority of lodging properties in Owatonna, August 2014 had the highest occupancy rate for any month in the last three years.
