Q. What’s hot in party décor for upcoming fall events?
A. This autumn’s hottest trends all revolve around the earth—it’s time to get back to nature with eco-friendly’s, natural tones and organic shapes.
Eco-friendly Dishware
While “recyclable” is nice, “biodegradable” is better. So while renting dishware can be the all-purpose answer to re-purposing, some events just dictate disposable. For example, one-use plating options from Shinichiro Ogata/SIMPLICITY offer you a modern, yet sturdy piece that you can toss in the compost heap after the event is over. What’s more, they’re tree-free, produced instead from sugar cane, bamboo and reed pulp. (Remember, though they ARE natural, they are NOT edible.)
The New Neutrals
Taking a cue from the fashion world, neutrals are all the rage in event décor this fall. From fabulous fabrics to furniture to linens and lamps, outfit your elegant event in shades of blush, taupe and gray (this season’s new black.) Remember, subtle doesn’t have to mean dull. Pair your pale pigments with organic accessories made from iron, wood or bone and create an ambience that is naturally beautiful.
Food on the Go
Picture your guests strolling along a mobile buffet of tempting Korean short ribs, crisp, hot Belgian waffles or even tart-tasting mango ice cream. Newly expanded laws in Minnesota allow food trucks/trailers on sidewalks, private lots and in some case, parking spaces. For more casual events, renting these trucks lets you offer your guests a fun variety of niche foods in a grab-and-go fashion. Best of all, you won’t be wasting resources on dishes, flatware, linens and the like. (Check for availability in your area.)
Spheres
Simple and sophisticated, spheres do double duty by decorating any tabletop while softening hard angles. Check around for spheres in a variety of materials, including black glass, textured copper and silver chrome mesh. Then arrange a sphere grouping of 4-6 inch diameter size bulbs and mix with non-fussy floral for a chic centerpiece.
